Here’s the thing. I am a J-Pop fan for over a decade now but I’m not hating on K-Pop. I know how much K-Pop is becoming on the rise among almost every country’s pop cultures, but regardless for me, I can never get in to K-Pop. Maybe because I’ve gotten used to loving my J-Pop that everything I see in K-Pop seems so similar to J-Pop, except for the language. It also makes you think why K-Pop artists would have to make Japanese renditions of their own current/old hit songs in Korea when they can always create original Japanese ones. Anyway.
I stumbled upon this video. Somehow it makes me want to ponder and think about this. For all of you J-Pop and K-Pop fans, what do you guys think?

I don’t care about K-pop, generally. But what turns me off if the music’s “rabid” fans. Anything upbeat that comes from other Asian countries is automatically labeled as K-pop rip off. o_0
Boy, they really neglect the fact that K-Pop is pretty much a rip-off of J-Pop as well. It wasn’t until the late 2000s that K-Pop got worldwide recognition, but J-Pop has been globally recognized since the late 90s and J-Pop has been a major hit in Korea for the longest time also.
And also, don’t forget that majority of the most popular K-dramas have been based on Japanese anime/manga series. Boys Over Flowers, Playful Kiss,and their biggest one yet (and sadly not very many K-pop/drama fans know this)— City Hunter. LOL.

IDK, in general(yes I am generalizing…hehe) I find the fandom toxic. I’m not sure why. I don’t get the same toxic environment towards a lot of Jpop fans. I think the Kpop “hype” got into the fans’ heads. Maybe, it’s because of the exaggeration of the media (Korean and international) about the “Kpop invading the world”. Japanese pop culture was big in many countries is the 90s that even America had a version (Power Rangers) of that Japan superhero that ‘volts in’..hehe but I never heard such anger/accusation. Even my favorite US cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender hardly gets that “rip off” accusation from many anime fans since it is drawn anime-style.
And it’s such a turn off to even trying to like Kpop.
Another thing: how dare they generalize Western music? Sure, there are bad music in the West but it’s not hard to find a good one either. They also forgot that many Kpop songs are the basis of Korean songs and music video concepts (I heard some Kpop songs are even bought from US composers). >.<. A lot of their producers are even Americans (almost irrelevant producers nowadays, LOL!)
